Merlin Cordite Ultegra Di2 Road Bike The Cordite is our flagship carbon bike. For the Cordite we've combined the best aspects of cutting edge race technology with an impressive capability for all-day riding. We don't mean all-day riding in a cruising around taking-it-easy sense, we mean all-day speed and bike handling thrills. The Cordite is a great bike for rolling hills and curvy terrain. It absolutely loves to be marching up ascents, screaming down descents or railing around corners. In a word: propulsive. The muscley head tube is about 10mm taller than a traditional race bike which gives you a bit of respite from the attack stance. A bit of a breather before diving back into the adrenaline pool. We expect you to be spending more time on the drops than perhaps you've done previously simply because it is such an exciting and rewarding place to be on the Cordite. You'll notice how the Cordite is white and black just like our other models. You may also have noticed the red accents here and there. This red detailing was our designer's way of indicating the Cordite's potential for redline riding. Think: GTi. This Cordite model has been built up with Shimano's stunning 11 speed Ultegra Di2 electronic groupset with 52/36T chainset and super powerful brakes. Fulcrum supply their well respected Racing 4 wheelset. 4ZA take care of the rest of the finishing kit with components from their Stratos range. There's no corner-cutting or ugly OEM components on display here. "We'd have no problem recommending it even to a relatively inexperienced mail-order buyer – just line up the handlebars, nip up the Allen key bolts and hit the road. "What's more, there's a UCI sticker on the down tube, which means the frame has been put through the UCI's testing procedure to approve it for road racing. That's not something you get with every mass-produced Chinese carbon frame, and it's another indicator that Merlin has done its homework. "What's also attractive is Merlin's new visual identity. The new logo is classy and the paintjob belies the bike's price. The frame looks and feels quality. "Combined with its short head tube and conservative wheelbase, this bike definitely feels racier than the other bikes here, and we'd be very happy to use it at local closed-circuit criterium races where that BB height would allow you to get on the gas earlier out of tight corners. "Experienced riders will find it a really good all-day and sportive bike too, with its low weight and great components. "The choice of components, low weight and great frame made the Cordite a favourite among the BikesETC testers, and it really does look the business – not always a given with bikes that come direct from shops." - Cyclist.co.uk Full specification: Frame: 24 Ton High Modulus Carbon Fork: Carbon Wheels: Fulcrum Racing 4 wheelset Tyres: Continental Ultra Sport II 25mm folding bead Chainset: Shimano Ultegra 52/36T Front Derailleur: Shimano Ultegra Di2 Rear Derailleur: Shimano Ultegra Di2 Gear/Brake Levers: Shimano Ultegra Di2 Brake callipers: Shimano Ultegra Cassette: Shimano Handlebars: 4ZA Cirrus Stem: 4ZA Cirrus Seatpost: 4ZA Cirrus Carbon Saddle: 4ZA Cirrus Pro Carbon Weight: 8.2 kg
