Today, we will walk you through the steps to set up your local business listing on the Google Places platform. When it comes to local online marketing, visibility is incredibly important. Lucky for you, there are several platforms, like Google Places, to create a presence for your business and gain that all-important visibility. Being listed on multiple web directories will give your website more search authority and credibility while helping you rank better on search engine results pages. You will start by clicking the link provided in the description below. Click the blue button that reads Start for Free. Next you will enter your Gmail account information and sign in. If you do not have a Gmail account, click the red box in the upper right hand corner that reads Sign Up, then follow the on screen instructions to set up your Gmail account. Once you have logged in, review the Terms and Conditions and click the box to agree then click Continue. Enter your business name in the search box that appears on the map. Be sure to enter your city and state in order to narrow your results. Review the list to see if your business appears. If it does not, click at the bottom of the list to "Let me create my business". Enter all of your business information here. Be thorough and type in the accurate information that you want to appear on the web when your business is searched. Then click to Submit. Google will want you to verify that this is, in fact, your business by receiving the post card that they send to the address you provided for your business listing. This process takes 1-2 weeks. Once the postcard arrives, click to Verify by Postcard. In the box that appears, review that your address will be printed correctly on the postcard, then enter your name in the CONTACT field and click submit. You will now be taken to your business listing page. Here you will add any additional details about your business. Be sure to enter a brief description about your business and products. You will also want to include any other contact information that may be missing. Note that this information will not be seen by viewers until you verify the account by entering the PIN received on the postcard by Google. Be sure to watch your mail carefully to ensure this postcard is received. Once you have received your PIN from Google in the mail. Go to the Google Places log in (same link provided in description). Select Sign In located in the upper right hand corner. Your account should automatically pop up. If it does not, enter your gmail account log in information and sign in. Locate and click the "Enter PIN" button in the blue ribbon at the top of the page. Enter your PIN exactly as it appears it on your postcard and Submit.
