Demo of PSK31 (Binary) using Ham Radio Deluxe DM780 software. PSK31 is a very narrow bandwidth of only approx 31hZ whereas on SSB you've got approx 2.4kHz so you can really cram a lot of signals in there. Great for low power and long distance HF communication. I have made contacts all over the world on as little as 5 watts. It works! There are many modes of digital and so many different ways to make contact. It really depends on the operator and personal preference as there are a myriad of modes and software to choose. I prefer HRD as it has everything I need and want out of an SDR. I even use it to remotely control my rig when away from my QTH and want to operate, but have no station. As long as I have an internet connection, I just connect remotely through HRD and get on the air as if I were sitting at my station. I can also control and operate remotely using my phone. I know a lot of people have problems with HRD, but it is all about the settings between HRD and your radio. If your settings are off on one or the other, it will not connect. Same for the DM780. It's about the settings and there are a number of them for digital, but once you get it straight, you're good. A lot of folks get frustrated and give up. Stick in there and you will be rewarded with many new modes of communication. Same for all the other software similar to HRD which is readily. HRD controls the rig. The Digital Master 780 is part of the suite of software which comes with HRD. If you just want to do digital and don't care about an SDR, just use the DM780. Of course, there are stand alone programs for that too, fldigi being one of them. When the bands suck for phone, you can always find rag chewing or DX on digital. Nice surprise at 10:19, too. I missed it running my mouth. Cool though! 73
