# Excluding Data from views The creator of a dashboard can chose to publish the dashboard in a filtered state. The filtering can be done in a filter box, or by doing a right-click Filter Exclude or Filter Include. Viewers of the dashboard using the web client will be able to modify the filtering, but the default state on initial load will always be filtered. A dashboard creator can exclude data on a permanent basis by applying an inner join with a selected subset of the data. This is done by first filtering out what should be excluded, then copying the remaining data, and pasting it into the Text Connector followed by an inner join with the original data set. # Cascading Filters In addition to the quick in-memory filters, you can add filters that are applied at the data loading stage, where the first filter setting will decide the filter options presented in the second filter and so on. Each filter is powered by a separate data table and uses a parameter when loading data. # Drill down and up Datawatch is a product for in-memory analysis, and drilling up and down in the dataset loaded in memory is quick and easy. The experience in the web client is identical to that in the desktop application. When working with big data volumes, even deeper drilldown is achieved through a dashboard design of Overview plus Details, with one or several data loading parameters and some of the aggregation off-loaded to the data layer. # Sort Sorting is controlled via a right mouse button context menu. Sorting can be done by text or by metrics, descending or ascending. Several visualizations can be linked and sorted the same way. The table display is sorted by clicking the different column headers. The web client and the desktop application offer identical sorting functionality. # Zoom Zooming is done by rolling the mouse wheel, or by selecting the rubber band zoom tool. To quickly zoom out completely, you can press the zoom out button. The web client and the desktop app works the same way. # Panning and Brushing Panning is always possible to do with scroll bars. You can also pan using the mouse pointer, while pressing and holding the control key and the left mouse button. This works the same way in the web client and in the desktop application. Brushing works across all visualizations that use the same data table, not only for selection but also for filtering. Items can be selected one by one, or by rubber band selection. By right-clicking, the selected items can be Excluded or Included. Again, the web client offers the same functionality that the desktop application does. # Show detailed rows behind a visualization To display the data row by row in the dashboard, you use the Visual Table. To reach the data shown in a visualization and use it elsewhere, you right-click and select Copy Data. To reach the entire data table, you right-click and select Copy Raw Data. When using the desktop application, the data will be put in the Clipboard memory as a comma separated dataset. When using the web client, the data set will download as a csv file.
